Taxes are back, and my wife wants me to get an SUV, and we don't want another car payment because it'll be another $300 per month that we don't want to spend anyway.

The last time I went to a car auction was 2011, when retail prices for used cars were ridiculous. I had $1500 in my pocket hoping to get into a retired police car. The only car that sold for less than $1500 was a 95 Ranger with a rod knock.

So have prices settled back into reality or should I try another avenue to get a cheap Jeep/4runner/etc?

never hurts to go look right! plus you never know what you'll get! buddy of mine bought a cheap Izuzu rodeo at one of those things, it was a great car! also fast forward 6 months and we rip out the dash to put in a stero and BAM, we found an 1/8th of weed and a half gram of coke. We had a good afternoon, hahaha.

My question is, how do you find out about Police Auctions? Every website I've found wants me to sign up for an account and pay a monthly fee to see the Police Auctions in my area.

Got my p71 a few months ago at a government surplus auction. They have a ton of crap to get rid of but some of the bids get a little crazy but there are deals out there if your patient. Plus most everything is online now er at least in michigan.

Do a search for government surplus auction in your area. Michigan has a few different ones and there all online

I bought an XJ Cherokee from a towing company auction once for $500. They Jeep was impounded and by the time the person tracked it down the fees were more than the vehicle was worth to him. I'd look at those. There was only maybe 10 bidders there.

Typically the best auctions require a sales license in your state. (Some states vary) You can always check Craigslist. I'd say that the prices are getting low enough that it would be easy to get a good deal.

Look for Rolling stock auctions and it'll usually get you to the website of the auction house that hosts them. A lot of the sites that want you to pay are scammy anyway.
